By choosing to stay at our hotel, you can at the same time use the SPA&Wellness area, where our guests will find not only a jacuzzi or a salt cave, but also an Infrared cabin. An infrared sauna (for that is what Infrared is) is a relatively new offering on the market alongside the well-known Finnish and steam saunas. We encourage you to learn about the use of this solution, because this treatment can also be used by people for whom traditional saunas were inaccessible due to health contraindications. What benefits does an infrared sauna provide? How should it be used?

Infrared Sauna – what is it?

The sauna cabin closely resembles traditional saunas, however in this case steam has been replaced by infrared rays. The therapeutic effect is related to the heat energy produced by these rays, which penetrates the body to a depth of about 3–4 cm. The difference between a traditional sauna and an infrared sauna is the temperature inside, which may be as low as 30 to 60 degrees. This also means that both children and elderly people can use this solution, provided there are no health contraindications.

What does an IR sauna session look like?

The duration of a single session is about 30 minutes. To feel the health-promoting effects of infrared rays, the treatment should be repeated at least once, up to three times a week.

You do not need any special preparation to use the sauna, but it is worth taking a shower before entering the cabin to wash off any remaining lotions or creams. This will allow the pores to open quickly and the skin to breathe freely.

You can use the cabin as soon as one hour after a meal. Just wrap yourself in a towel and also take one towel for your feet, because you should be in the cabin without slippers.

After the session ends, you should dry your body thoroughly and when the pores begin to close (after a few minutes), you can take a cool shower.

What effect does an Infrared sauna have on the body?

The heat produced by infrared radiation causes blood vessels to dilate and also increases the heart rate. This in turn leads to greater perspiration, comparable to that which occurs during intense exercise. Of course, as the skin secretes sweat, the body burns calories and additionally expels toxins, which has a positive effect on the functioning of the immune system.

When is it worth using an infrared sauna?

The Infrared Sauna demonstrates a range of properties that beneficially affect the body. Indications for using this solution include, among others: pain and degeneration of the spine and joints, rheumatic diseases, sciatica attacks, circulatory disorders, muscle cramps and tension, low blood pressure, diabetes, overweight, skin diseases and sinusitis.

Positive effect on well-being

People struggling with chronic stress or fatigue can also use the Infrared sauna. The effect of infrared rays on the body causes it to warm up quickly and the muscles to relax very fast. The whole body relaxes, so after the session each person feels significantly calmer and experiences improved well-being.

Sauna and overweight/obesity

Sessions in an infrared sauna are also an excellent option for people who would like to lose excess kilograms. One session can burn between 600 and 900 calories! An advantage of this type of treatment is also the reduction of cellulite, because it positively affects the appearance of the skin, which thus becomes firm, smooth and radiant.

Contraindications for using the treatment

Although the infrared sauna does not operate at very high temperatures, there are contraindications to using this type of treatment. These include:

  • pregnancy, menstruation
  • cancer
  • adrenal insufficiency
  • hemophilia
  • lichen planus
  • hypertension
  • inflammatory heart diseases
  • stroke
  • multiple sclerosis
  • epilepsy
  • lung, kidney, or liver diseases
  • recent joint injury
  • fever

The long list of contraindications shows that before undergoing a sauna treatment it is worth consulting this decision with a doctor.
